Overview

The UCSF Department of Neurology is proud to have multiple fellowship opportunities in a variety of adult and pediatric neurology specialties. This community of fellows represents diverse backgrounds and a variety of professional goals. The excellence of our research and clinical faculty and the variety of our training hospitals allows us to provide outstanding clinical training and research opportunities for fellows. UCSF's neurology and neurosurgery departments consistently receive some of the highest level of funding from the National Institutes of Health. Collaboration with the Neuroscience graduate program allows for an extensive network of mentors available to fellows.  In collaboration with UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, we provide unique opportunities for cross-departmental clinical work and research in the pursuit of advancing the neurosciences. Fellows interested in a role as educator have the opportunity to work with excellent residents and students, and advance their skills in this arena.

Fellows Forum

The Fellows Forum is a program run by the Vice Chair of Education which is designed to bring together Neurology fellows in all of our training programs in order to build community and share resources. Trainees in the same professional and life stage, who no longer have a large residency cohort, benefit from the connections made at all-fellows orientation, quarterly educational meetings and wellness events. All-Fellows graduation has become a highlight of the year for fellows and their program directors, families and friends. Fellow representatives join the Neurology Education Committee to participate in the educational goals of the department and represent the common interest of the fellowships in decision making.

Diversity

The UCSF Neurology Fellowship programs are committed to building a broadly diverse community, nurturing a culture that is inclusive, and engaging diverse ideas for the provision of culturally competent education, discovery, and patient care to serve the needs of our diverse state.  We recognize that to advance health and remediate health disparities, we must develop a workforce of future health and science leaders that can solve complex problems in an increasingly diverse world. We seek to educate learners from all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, beliefs, abilities and perspectives. We are committed to assuring opportunities for historically excluded individuals and groups who are underrepresented in science and medicine. The exclusion of diverse groups and perspectives from health care contributes to significant health disparities, impeding our ability to achieve health equity for all communities. We seek fellows with a desire to serve culturally diverse and medically underserved populations and those committed to working on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
